Excellent Camera!
Our family has bought several versions of the powershot series beginning with the first Elph about five years ago. I have used the Canon XT too. I use it with multiple lenses and do some amateur photography. We are really happy with the Canons we have used over the years. It's less flashy than some of the other manufacturers but these cameras are reliable with good picture quality.
We went to France and Italy for two weeks and I did not want to carry the XT lenses. So, we decided to carry laptops but not check baggage. So, we had to reduce the amount of camera gear. This is keeping in mind, that we would be on foot, buses, trains and planes.
I researched the many Elphs and chose this model because of the image stabilization features and the 5x zoom. We took the USB cords for the camera so that we can download pictures and video, the battery charger and an extra battery. We also took a plug adapter for European wall plugs.
On the trip we took around 1,000 pictures. The photo quality is great, and the fact that we were able to keep the SD890IS in a pocket was very convenient. We'll definitiely be taking this little powershot on other trips.
